Kolkata: Police arrested suspended Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh on Saturday in connection with the multi-crore Saradha Group ponzy scam. 
The development came just few minutes after Left Front chairman Biman Bose demanded a CBI probe into the chit fund scam and claimed that several names other than that of its chairman Sudipta Sen had cropped up in connection with it. 

Chit fund scam: Showcause notice to channels run by Saradha group

NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has issued showcause notice to the channels run by West Bengal-based Saradha group for alleged violations of uplinking and downlinking guidelines. 
The ministry has also asked the Home Ministry to specify if its clearance to the channels is still valid after it came to notice that new people had been nominated as directors in the company that runs the channels, a senior official said. 

WB govt to soon get Centres comments on chit fund bill: P Chidambaram

NEW DELHI: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram today said the West Bengal government will soon get comments of the Centre on the bill passed by the state assembly for protection of investors in chit fund schemes. 
"The Ministry of Finance has given its comments to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). I think they (MHA) are awaiting comments from one or two other ministries, perhaps the Ministry of Company Affairs," Chidambaram said in reply to a question regarding the bill passed by West Bengal. 

Bengal to pay back duped chit fund investors: Mamata Banerjee

KOLKATA: The West Bengal government is committed to compensate the losses suffered by chit fund investors in the wake of the Saradha Group's fold-up, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said.
"We shall soon start paying compensation to the depositors cheated by the Saradha Group and such other chit fund companies recommended by the Justice (Retd) Shyamal Sen Commission of Inquiry," she said.

KOLKATA: With the Trinamool Congress government stepping into the third year of its rule, it is facing its biggest challenge in the multi-crore chit fund scam which has hitlakhs of people across the state.The bubble burst of the Saradha Group and many other small chit funds has left a trail of suicides by investors and agents and the killing of a director of one such firm with the number of deaths reaching 14 so far.
