Rs 300-crore fund too little to help chit fund victims

BHUBANESWAR: Pradesh Congress Committee President Jayadev Jena on Thursday reacted on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s declaration of Rs 300 crore of corpus fund for the duped 20 lakh chit fund investors in the State.Jena alleged that there is a mega chit fund scam involving 20 lakh families who have lost their financial strength totally and the State Government has made a very low corpus fund to repay them. This is nothing but just to divert the attention of the people from the heat of the scam ahead of the general elections, said he PCC chief. He further alleged that many ruling BJD MLAs, MPs and Ministers are involved in the chit fund scam and the Chief Minister has ordered judicial inquiry into the scam with an intention to shield his party leaders and save his Government in the long run as the judicial probe would take a long time to come out with its verdict.Jena pointed out that there are around 20 judicial commissions formed in recent years, but except one or two no other commission has submitted its report so far. So, the Chief Minister should accept the demand for a CBI probe into the chit fund scam, he said.
