Two chit fund operators go missing

Over 100 depositors in Karur lose their money; police promise to track down the culpritsPolice are on the look out for two persons from Karur who ran a chit fund firm but fled by the night without retuning the money collected from depositors. Hapless depositors preferred a complaint with the Superintendent of Police Santhosh Kumar who assured them that prompt action would be taken against the defaulters.

In the petition, more than 100 persons from Rayanur, Sellandipalayam, Thanthoni, Thirumanilayur, and Malaikovilur areas of Karur district submitted that they had been remitting monthly deposits with a chit firm called Bhagavathy Amman Enterprises run by Gopi (35) of Karur and Gopal (40) of Sellandipalayam for several months. The chit fund operators had promised to repay the deposit after a certain accepted period.

In the recent days, the chit fund operators had defaulted on payments to depositors and as Deepavali approached, depositors were going to the duo to get their money back. However, when the mobile phones of the duo remained switched off, scores of depositors reached the office of the firm only to stare at the locked doors. The depositors then flocked the District Police Office on Saturday and gave a written complaint to Mr. Santhosh Kumar who assured them that action would taken against the two criminals and they would be tracked down. He counselled the public against investing their hard earned money with fly-by-night operators.
